Transport & logistics (2023)
Logistics plays a central role in our business model, as our customers expect deliveries and collections of new and repaired goods on time. Our own logistics fleet currently includes a small van and a Sprinter van, which are mainly used to transport deliveries and our exhibition stand.
When planning our transports, we attach great importance to sustainability and efficiency. We often use logistics companies whose efficient route planning leads to lower CO₂ emissions, as they can usually avoid empty runs. Unfortunately, this also exposes us to risks such as driver shortages and rising transport costs due to CO₂ taxes in the logistics industry. Although we have only limited influence on the environmental impact of the freight forwarders, we can have a certain positive influence by choosing carefully.
We also plan trips to trade fairs or business meetings efficiently in order to keep CO₂ emissions and costs low. We use either vehicles from our internal fleet or means of transport such as the train to minimize our ecological footprint. Our fleet comprises a total of 33 vehicles, including 1 Sprinter van and 1 small van (both diesel vehicles).
Using our own fleet not only has a direct impact on the environmental impact, but also brings other advantages: ODM can efficiently plan and carry out service trips and tests at the customer's premises independently of external service providers, which not only saves costs and enables flexibility, but also reduces CO₂ emissions. We have a petrol hybrid or electric vehicle at our disposal for this purpose. We also provide our employees with electric vehicles for private use in order to have a further positive influence on the environmental impact.
To support the use of electric vehicles, we have installed over 20 charging points for electric vehicles from the company's own fleet and the employees' private electric vehicles on the ODM site. These charging points are powered by solar energy from the spacious photovoltaic system on the hall roof. Software solutions for evaluating the use and efficiency of the charging points are to be integrated into our existing building monitoring in the future.
